Services

Hours of Operation: Mon through Friday, 9 to Noon for services
Lunch served at 1:00 P.M. (hot lunch on Wednesdays)
(Wednesday lunch provided by clubs, schools,
church groups from other parishes, and individuals)

Needs

Items we need daily are...

  • white socks (one size fits all),
  • underpants (sizes 34, 36, 38),
  • travel size deodorants,
  • toothbrushes,
  • wash cloths,
  • razors, and
  • t-shirts (medium and large)

Goals

These the goals we have been operating from.
As the city changes so our goals change.

  • 1) Reintegration services
    • a) Contacting displaced residents/business and determining their willingness/ability to return.
    • b) Work with local government, schools, non-profits, etc. to understand current or proposed methods of location and reintegration.
  • 2) Health Needs and Referrals
    • a) Identify available health services
      • i) Identify health needs
      • ii) Match with available services – through various techniques of referral.
      • iii) Build relationships with health providers (medical, mental, dental and pharmacy)
  • 3) Food Program
    • a) Investigate and respond to the food needs in the neighborhood.
    • b) Ascertain the number of people needing meals.
    • c) Research other meal services available.
    • d) Determine what funding and food sources are available.
  • 4) Housing Services
    • a) Collaborate with Catholic Charities, T/CNDC (Tulane/ Canal Neighborhood Development Corporation) and other organizations that supply services to determine the status of applicable programs
    • b) Identify individuals that need these services and coordinate the services.
  • 5) Financial Fitness
    • a) Work with individuals on Budgeting and Money Management and offering specific values toward Income/Debt.
    • b) Work with Utility company, Phone company etc. regarding their policies for fair charges for good/services, reconnection/late payments
    • c) Investigate Government Programs to assist residents with utility payments.
    • d) Keep informed regarding the status for Section 8 vouchers
    • e) Evaluate the need for rent assistance.
    • f) Be involved in system change regarding absentee landlords, evictions, and the policies of HANO
    • g) Provide access to good resources for tax filing and child support payments.
    • h) Advocate for job training programs
  • 6. Legal Assistance
    • a) Assess needs for legal assistance: birth certificates, social security, ID’s, renter’s rights, and clear titles.
    • b) Match needs to legal providers
    • c) Provide Education opportunities:
      • i) Renter’s rights
      • ii) Clear Title on Properties
      • iii) Social Security Benefits/Medicare/Medicaid
      • iv) Insurance
      • v) Rights of the undocumented
  • 7. Vounteers: Coordinate and promote various types of volunteer groups according to identified needs.
  • 8. Develop a data base to coordinate and track services.
